SPOKANE, WA — Zero Emissions Northwest is proud to announce that it was awarded two grants under the USDA's Energy Audit and Renewable Energy Development Assistance (EA/REDA) program. These grants, secured in partnership with the Spokane Conservation District (SCD) and the Franklin Conservation District (FCD), respectively, will play a pivotal role in promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy development in rural Washington and Idaho -- an initiative in line with this administration's energy goals of creating more independent, American-led energy.
Grant Details
ZEN + Spokane Conservation District: $100,000 - Won the Energy Audit (EA) portion of the grant
ZEN + Franklin Conservation District: $100,000 - Won the Rural Energy Development Assistance (REDA) portion of the grant
The EA/REDA program, through the USDA Farm Bill, is designed to assist rural small businesses and agricultural producers in conducting energy audits and developing renewable energy projects. By doing so, this program promotes energy independence and sustainability in rural areas -- ensuring independent, American-produced energy.
How Will the Grant Be Used?
Recruitment - ZEN and the SCD/FCD teams will actively identify farmers and rural businesses in disadvantaged areas who could benefit from renewable energy insights.
Conduct Energy Audits - Collect data and analyze energy consumption, conduct a site assessment and evaluate equipment and systems. Identify opportunities for improvement.
Outreach - Conferences, advertising, and targeted outreach through virtual events and leveraging strong relationships within agricultural communities across Washington and Idaho.
Project Technical Assistance - The ZEN team will provide comprehensive renewable energy scoping. This assistance will uncover opportunities to reduce energy costs while maintaining business outcomes. Insights gathered will be shared to benefit similar farms.
Why This Matters
This initiative strengthens American energy independence by increasing the supply of renewable energy and decreasing energy demand through efficiency improvements. Over time, these investments will help lower energy costs for small businesses and agricultural producers, fostering a more sustainable, energy-independent future.
