A Milestone in Sustainability
We're thrilled to announce an incredible achievement in our journey toward a greener, more sustainable and energy-independent future! The Giving Grid, our community solar program for rural school districts, has officially reached an energy impact of 1 GWh.
For those unfamiliar with energy metrics, this is an astonishing amount — it takes 1,000 Megawatt hours to reach 1 Gigawatt hour — enough energy to drive an electric vehicle for over 3 million miles! Or... like embarking on a road trip to the moon and back not once, but six times! More fun ways to picture the amount of energy created:
1,000 Megawatt hours (MWh) = 1 Gigawatt hour (GWh), which is equal to...
Enough energy to brew 6 million pots of coffee
Running a standard 100-watt light bulb continuously for over 1,140 years
The energy released by burning roughly 340,000 pounds of coal (which we've avoided!)
A Huge Thanks to Our Team
Such a remarkable milestone wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and dedication of our amazing team and partners. Every small photon counts, and together, we’ve turned free sunshine into massive collective momentum that drives our sustainability initiatives forward. Thank you to Washington State University, Partners for Rural Washington, Ellensburg Solar and all of the rural Washington school districts who have trusted us with this important initiative. From environmentally conscious employees to enthusiastic community members, your contributions have been invaluable in making this goal a reality.
What’s Next for Us?
We're just getting started! As we celebrate this accomplishment, we continue to look ahead. Each day presents a new opportunity to make sustainable choices and continue being good stewards of the one planet we've been given. Let’s keep the power on and keep going!
