Colville Schools received solar energy installations for free
Solar energy installations have been completed at Colville School. And the cost? Free, thanks to a program called The Giving Grid, by Zero Emissions Northwest.

A $1.5 million solar energy installation has been finished at four Colville schools. The project was completely funded through The Giving Grid community solar program, which covered the full cost of installation. The school district only pays for the energy that the systems produce.
These installations can be found at Hofstetter Elementary, Fort Colville Elementary, Colville Middle School, and Colville High School.
The four schools are now a part of around 20 schools in rural communities in eastern Washington that are benefiting from the program.
The Giving Grid is a joint effort between Craft3, Zero Emissions Northwest, Partners for Rural Washington, Ellensburg Solar, the WSU Energy Program and Washington State Housing and Finance Commission. Their aim is to make sure that rural schools and facilities have the same access that other communities would have to solar energy with no upfront cost.
Zero Emissions Northwest will own, operate and finance the solar systems until 2036.
According to Zero Emissions Northwest, the project is aiming to save the district around $4 million through the entire life of the system and provide wider benefits to the Colville community.
